Our mission is making new lives
We move formerly homeless veterans into their new living spaces, providing everything they need to set up housekeeping and begin their new lives. In the last two years, we have moved more than 600 veterans in their new homes, providing them with -- recycled furniture, linens, toietries, cookware, household goods, groceries and other necessities to get them on the road to indpendence and self-respect.
Without even a can opener...
When a homeless veteran finally gets an apartment, often through a federal program, he/she is often given the keys and little else. The veteran often has no furniture – not even a bed -- no household items, and no resources to purchase them. A pantry may provide food, but the vet may not even have a can opener or a saucepan. That's where MHVI comes in.
We fill the gaps
We accept donations of furniture. kitchen and household items, toiletries and food from individuals and businesses and deliver them to veterans and their families. In 2015, MHVI helped 343 veterans and their families move into new living spaces, and provided donated items valued at more than $366,000.
Home Support has grown steadily
We have furnished more than 1,300 veterans’ apartments since we began the program in a small way in 2009, supplying them with goods, almost all donated, valued at more than $1-million.. Our two trucks do pickups and deliveries Monday through Friday.
